Cold Weather Beds
As of Tuesday, November 28th, inclement weather Cold Weather Cots are now operational at Southern Human Services Center (2501 Homestead Rd., Chapel Hill, NC 27516).
- Overnight emergency shelter will be provided when the National Weather Service air or wind chill temperatures fall below 33 degrees.

Hours of Operation:
6:00 pm – 7:30 pm – Registration starts at Southern Human Service Center – walk-ins accepted
6:30 pm – Transportation leaves from IFC Commons
8:00 pm – Shelter Opens
7:45 am – Transportation returns to IFC Commons
8:00 am – Shelter Closes
What Guests can Expect:
- Cots, Blankets, Water and Snacks Provided
- Multiple Orange County staff and/or volunteers will be present during the hours of operation
- COVID testing administered prior to entry
- May bring sleeping bags, blankets and essential belongings
